Massachusetts
Massachusetts’ vector control system is built around regional mosquito control districts (MCDs) with municipal funding and state oversight. While this structure enables locally tailored, data-driven decision-making guided by experienced staff and input from commissioners with diverse backgrounds, decision-making processes at the state level can feel unclear. Investment in both mosquito and tick-borne disease work is high, but differences in resources and approaches between regions lead to gaps in surveillance coverage. Extension programs and local experts serve as trusted community resources, yet broader collaboration and a more unified statewide working group could help address inconsistencies and strengthen integrated vector management efforts.
